The Competitive Sports Club program at Cape Breton University provides additional opportunities for individuals interested in a specific sport to develop or improve their skills, participate recreationally or competitively in leagues and competitions external to CBU, and establish social contacts. The Sports Club Program offers students an opportunity to compete in a sport or activity at a level higher than intramural sports. Sports clubs are voluntary, non-profit, student-led organizations whose members assume club activities' leadership and financial responsibilities. Some clubs may represent the University in sports leagues, tournaments either locally, regionally or provincially. Club teams may also conduct practices as well as instructional sessions. All members are required to adhere to Department of Athletics & Recreation and University guidelines and policies  

CBU students and community members manage registered Competitive Sport Clubs. The programs are a service to student members and are registered with the Department of Athletics & Recreation to schedule department facilities, apply for the use of certain services, and receive basic support for on-campus sport club activities.
